Hey y'all!
Stawrting to formulate a game plan for hunting Idaho black bear. I was wondering if y'all had any general bear hunting advice from personal experience, in Idaho preferably but anywhere would be appreciated! Spot and stalk, bait sites, calling, any methods that you've used with success would be a huge help.
Thanks!

my best advice ,without having a more specific question is , GO WHERE THE BEARS ARE!:D

if you go spot and stalk , in early spring , get to a point where you can see a lot of country, glass snow free grassy slopes. eating grass helps em get their stomachs going after the big sleep.

I went last year for the first time and while I did not harvest a bear (a buddy with us did), I learned a lot. A lot will depend on the unit you are hunting. We did spot and stalk as well as bait sites last year. We had more luck with the bait sites than anything. Our plan this year is to focus on bait sites but we will still be out during the mornings looking for bear and wolves.

What unit do you plan to hunt?

I agree, go where there are lot of bears, after checking and rebaiting, spot and stalk. If you're in a good area, bears will come in a couple of days. Some areas have reduced tags for NR and 2 tags. That usually means more bears. The snowline will usually dictate how high you can hunt for May and June. Stretch your baits at different elevations. IMO

PM if you want some general areas.

Thanks gents! We were debating unit 16, or unit 16 north of Selway river. 2 tags for reduced cost. Any experience there?
