Hello all!

I?m looking at hunting Idaho otc rifle elk this fall. Looking at either the sawtooth Or salmon region. Any insight into either region would be great, don?t need honey holes just want some starting points and real life knowledge of the area?s.

Thanks

Always lots of hunters in Idaho. Get way back In if you can to limit the guys out running around. Keep an eye out for wolves too.

lot's of knowledge on this site but you may have to get to know folks a bit before you get a lot of help.
it also helps if you have specific questions we can answer.

you gonna pack in , camp ,motel???do you have any experience hunting elk?? do you have horses four wheeler,or just gonna pack it out on back??

many things like this need be considered when choosing where you hunt, so if we don't know it's not easy to be of help.

Good point kidoggy. I’ve been bow hunting for 20+ years, this will be my first rifle elk hunt. I plan on having a base camp close to a trailhead and backpacking in for a few days and either staying or moving camp to find elk. Don’t mind hiking to get away from others. I have a few places on the map in the salmon region I’m looking at in 36b.

The Sawtooth sells out in seconds and it's becoming a controlled hunt next year.

I think the Salmon zone is great. I hunt a bordering area.
