Idaho Moose question.

To start I live in Wyoming, and am applying for Moose here, but Moose is just that one animal that I have always been drawn to, and would really like to spend more than one or two times in my life chasing.
So, I can't afford a guided hunt in Alaska or Canada. As a meet in the middle from a guided hunt, my wife has given me the go ahead to start applying for an out of state Moose tag. I know in Idaho the Moose tag is a one time draw, so I want to do as much research on a unit as possible, in case I actually draw. At this time I would probably be hunting solo, no horses, would be willing to pay someone to help pack out a Moose, just can't afford a guide. Because of the draw odds, and success rates, unit 1-1 caught my eye. I'm going to be traveling through that area this summer and will only have a few hours, but am going to at least drive through and get a idea of the terrain.
So, to my question for anyone who's hunted or been in the area, can a fair amount of Bull Moose be found within about 1.5 miles of roads? What type of hunting is it in that area, thick, or open and glass-able country? Are there any people up there that do game retrieval services, if I get in to far, or its hot?

Thanks in advance for any info!

I'm no expert on 1-1, but seeing no one else will jump in I will give you what I know. Yes you can find moose around the roads. I know of lots of guys that I'm not sure they even walked until they found a moose. Lots of logging roads through thick stuff (all north Idaho is). There are clear cuts that help, but over all it will thicker than anything most have hunted. Moose should be callable from the opener into the middle of October. Not sure on retrieval services, you'd have to search that one. I drew 1-4 and had a ball. Little better odds, but they have also dropped tags since I drew in 2011. Buddy drew 1-1 this year, so I'll have more info after this year. You'll have to message me when you draw.

lang I really appreciate the info. Going to be driving through there in a week, so going to take a half a day to check a few things out. If I ever draw the tag I will defiantly let you know.

If I knew that area i would have chimed in, sorry. You should consider also putting in for the moose super hunt. Check it out on Idaho fish and game page. Only a few $ per chance to draw but puts your hat in for an extra chance. Not to late for 2nd draw.
