well it's that time agin. deer elk , antigoat. may 1st to june fifth. pretty much the only gambling I do, and am seldom lucky. usually end up a pack mule for those that do draw but I still gotta do it, I'M AN ADDICT and just can't help myself.
good luck to all you fellow addicts.

think I'LL POP FOR A CHANCE AT A SUPERTAG ,ALSO.can't win if you don't play, right.

was thinking about putting in with an old buddy who moved up north. does anybody know much about unit 18 nov 10 to 30 rifle hunt? have always liked looks of that country when driving by but never hunted it.
don't need any honey holes or anything just wondering, is it known for big bucks? is there abundance of public land or is it mostly private? would hate to put in and find it limited access.

have always been intrigued by the idea of floating the river north of riggins and accessing that way from the east.
obviously I need to do some scouting of my own but any info would help

I figure my drawing odds for moose are better in the super hunt and that way I can still put in for my deer and elk draws.

There is a lot of public land in the unit, most of it is on the Snake river side. There is public land on the Salmon river side, but most of the stuff along the river is private. Its real steep and nasty country where the big guys usually hang out. Last year was the first year for the late buck tag, the tag in October was the only tag in previous years and I've seen a lot of good bucks come out of there.

I generally put in once for each species seperately and then once more for the four together. never expect to get it but ya never know.

For some reason I get more excited about the $20 super hunt than I do the controlled hunt application.

I generally put all the money I chose to put towards it towards one species, putting my name in that hat for as many chances as I can get. this year I put what I would have have spent on the moose draw towards the moose super tag, then some towards deer.

I'm applying for a rifle elk tag I probably won't draw. Good thing I can get the archery tag for the same unit OTC!

I'm torn, between 54 archery elk, 66a early rifle, or 68 desert rifle. seen some monster bulls out there last year, my buddy drew that tag and killed a huge 360 bull, and its only a 20 minute drive from home!!! desert hunting just doesn't turn me on though like the mountains do. so... 54 or 66a

was a pack mule for my brother a few years ago(can't never draw my own tag , so I have to hunt vicariously through others) for a late muzzleloader hunt in 54. saw some real nice bulls but I didn't have to pack any of em cause he is a terrible shot. saw several moose also and a couple purty decent mulies.
