I can't wait. 8 days until I can start hunting for my first high country mule deer hunt. 2 days until I leave. I think my wife wants me to leave now just so I quit talking about the hunt.

24. Plenty to keep me busy until then. I purposely haven't organized my gear just so I have something to keep me busy.

Been a bit hectic since I got back after being gone for almost 2 weeks.

The hunt was awesome. Something about disconnecting yourself from everything for 12 days really allows you to recharge.

The scenery from this area was great.

Plenty of wildlife to be seen. Saw one bull that got me really excited. Even had to chase a few bear away from 20 yds.

A few moose I saw.

Unfortunately I didn't see a lot of deer. I saw deer before the season started while scouting, but I think due to the later start date, dry basins, and maybe pressure the deer moved down. By the time I realized this and moved from the alpine basins I wasn't able to relocate any deer before I had to leave.

I can't complain too much as I did miss a nice 160ish 3x4 opening morning....not sure what happened there besides nerves. But, that was the last deer I saw.

One from the unit I found.

As mentioned earlier, this was a great hunt and experience. Not too many places you can go and see 14 elk, 5 bear, 5 deer and 5 moose. After Almost 12 days in the woods and over 50 miles of hiking I came back tired but certainly energized from the experience. I think backpacking in 7 miles and not seeing a person or hearing a phone will do that for you!

Awesome pics. What state did you hunt? I may have missed it, if so I apologize. My next MD hunt will be for 12 days. I can't wait, but it is looking like 2018 currently. Stupid point creep!!

Colorado for one of the early season high country rifle hunts. Had a blast but it is mentally challenging. Physically I felt good and did good once I got it in my head that this hunt was a marathon and not a sprint. The mountain definitely sets the pace. After almost 12 days in I was definitely beat. But, I did feel like I gave it everything and left it all on the mountain.
