my wife use to hunt and shoot steel with a custom 260. she was nailing steel at 1100 yards with it and using 139 scenars and 130 accubonds for hunting. Only shot a doe with it at 275 and heart shot, ran in a small circle and fell over. her hunting load was
Lapua brass-130 accubonds-43.1 grains H4350-cci-br2 primers shooting at 2823 fps. Dont have the 139 scenar load data.

I've never used one but on paper it seems like a great cartridge for deer and antelope. Hopefully it won't fade away into obscurity.
I have never seen one on the shelf anywhere and ammo seems to be pretty scarce, and expensive.
With comparable 140 grain ammo the 7mm08 and the .260 ballistics are almost identicle.

Model Seven SS 260 Rem shooting Remington 120 gr Premier Accu-Tips. I have had the rifle since 1998. Started out loading 100 gr ballistic tips from once fired Remington brass. Switched to the Accu-Tips several years ago. Only lost one animal with this rifle. My son shot a whitetail quartering to him with the ballistic tip. Found him next Spring while scouting. I would say this rifle has killed 100 plus Whitetails since owned. Longest shot was on a 215 lb whitetail in Montana at 315 yards. My oldest grandson now hunts with it and I have two on order right now from my FFL. Remington says they should be produced in June 2015. Love this rifle and caliber!

At ranges over 300 yards the .260 bests the 7mm/08 in both energy and velocity.

I'm talking factory ammo here.
With 140 grain remington core-lokt ammo at 400 yards difference hardly worth noting. Trajectory 1.71 inches in favor of 7mm08

.260 - energy 1221
7mm08 enegy 1231

.260 - velocity 1982
7mm08 velocity 1990

A good friend of mine had one custom built for him and his wife to both shoot long distance with. ..it's an awesome gun. Mainly got it for wolves and he was hitting targets over 1200 yards every time once the loads were dialed in. I'm not sure what the exact data is on his bullets though. I really enjoyed shooting that caliber though

I love my savage 260. I killed my deer last year with it at 290 yards with a 140 gn sierra game king. Buck went 30 yards and dropped dead.
