I have been doing research for a year i guess now for a Wyoming antelope hunt. And i have yet to find anyone in my area that wants to do a hunt like this. Im not really looking for someone to hunt with all the time just a travel partner and a camp partner. Dont half to hunt together. I live in east TN i realize Wyoming is a long way off and a lot of gas. Maybe im just on a rant. I would not care to do it by myself but just trying to save some on travel expense. Im not giving up though.

A lot of people from the Midwest act like deer and turkey hunting is the only thing to do,and I am from the Midwest and wish I lived closer to the mountains.

I live in southeast Alabama and I have the same problem. I've been on 4 hunts out west and 3 have been solo. I always have people that say "I would love to go" and "count me in" but at the end of the day they aren't disciplined enough to save the money or vacation time. I was going to go on a DIY elk hunt this year, but of course the 2 guys that were going with me have backed out when I told them we needed to buy our tags and gear needed. I put in a lot of hours researching OTC units, pouring over maps, etc. It's frustrating but that's life I guess! That's my rant for the day.

When are you planning on going? Do you have a tag for this year or are you asking for next year? Archery or rifle?

Is this where I say me too? They all say they want to go right up to the point where you have to apply for tags. So you tell 'em to buy a preference point and go next year. Never happens. Solo here too again, Colorado elk 6 then Wyoming pronghorn 21. Gonna love it.

I try to go to Wyoming for pronghorns every year, I have done it both ways, sometimes a couple hundred extra on gas is well spent! I would be open to sharing a camp and expenses, how many p-points do you have?

Not much different even if you live out here. I moved to Wyoming from SD 3 1/2 years ago. Everyone I talk to either doesn't hunt, or won't disclose any information or invite you along. I've hunted alone and had to find places to go on my own since I moved here.

I've lived here in SW Colorado since I retired 13 years ago. Most of the longtime residents still consider me (and other new residents) as outsiders. I've had good luck getting permission to hunt waterfowl on private property, but big game is a different story. A lot of the farmers bitch and cry to G & F about the damage the elk & deer do to their hay, but ask permission to hunt (and help them out), forget it, you'd do better asking to borrow their best pickup truck! That unfortunately is a fact and I suspect the same in other western states.

I've got hogs come on down! I've got a buddy with dogs unless you want to stand hunt them over corn.

I've been on solo's & with groups. It is a blast if you got some die-hard hunters. I'd rather solo as have to put up with a homesick wimp though. I can't stand taking someone out west, they tag out & want to go home immediately. If I set 10 days aside to go out west, I stay the 10 days. If we all tag out, we scout for future hunts. If I drive a 1000 miles, I'm going to enjoy my stay. That is my rule, I tell them up front "If you can't run with the Big Dogs stay on the porch!"

Eberle, I couldn't agree more. You don't go out there just to see how quickly you can get back. I usually am more inclined to try to figure out a way to stay one more day. I have gone solo the last 6 years to southwest Colorado, so if anyone is a elk/deer bowhunter, I would be interested in being part of a bigger group. I am a horrible cook, but I am always willing to help pack out an animal! That has to count for something. lol

I like staying the the hole 10 or 15 days I have took off but if we tag out an have coolers full like heading back home an get started on the biggest job getting them in the freezer an here at home when we get back from out west deer hunting is at its best so I see it both ways
