I have just decided that I would like to get up to Idaho and chase some mulies and/or elk up there in the next couple of years (2 would be the target range). From what I can see through my brief research I should be able to buy tags over the counter once I have bought a license. I was wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions or general information that would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Have you though about other OTC states? I am planning on an Oregon trip for elk this year.

Yes sir, I will be heading up this september, my uncle goes every year, he killed a 320 bull there a few years ago. I struck out in all states I applied for so that looks like my ticket into the field this year minus being behind my bird dog.

Oregon has plenty of OTC hunting, eastern unit OTC hunting is bow only. There are some eastern units you still have to draw to bow hunt. If you want to rifle hunt OTC you can hunt the most units in the cascades or the coast. This goes for deer and elk. You can buy a tag right up till the day before season begins too.
