Now that the season is coming to an end, I'm sure everyone will take some much deserved rest after hunting hard this year. When the time comes, what kind of workout/fitness regiments do some of you observe to get you into shape to handle backcountry trips? Are you doing crossfit-style weight training circuits with a healthy amount of cardio? Standard lifting circuits in a gym? Weighted rucks? Now that gyms are most likely closing down again, what kind of options are you looking at to stay in physical shape leading into next season?

Check out the section in the forum titled, "Getting in shape for the hunt". You can read thru past posts that cover this issue very well. In the link titled "Who else is", there is a handful of members who are very dedicated, both in training and in posting. All have a variety of routines, and fit into very different personal situations. "Bonecollector was a competitive body builder who still works out religiously, but has gotten into running more recently; he is in his 40's; "Marcus is younger, with a young family and he has struggled with a weight issue for much of his life. He has lost a bunch of weight and has found a routine that works for him. "Scott R. is an Eastman's staffer who trains and hunts religiously. Me, "RICMIC" am 68 and a guy who has always maintained fitness, but has had to modify what I do to stay in shape as I get older. The mantra that I try to follow was posted in the Marine Corps fitness center that I frequented 49 years ago; "Fitness is transitory, and must be worked for continuously, and the only program of effective value is a lifetime one." Good luck

I am serious. I absolutely hate working out. There are so many other things I could be building/catching/killing that build the muscles that matter. Crawling down a pig trail on a mountainside trail in the laurel bushes on my hands an knees trying not to put my hand in a pile of pig shit or come face to face with a rattlesnake is more my speed than any kind of workout the Bowmars could dream up.

The thought of running on a treadmill and lifting weights makes me cringe.. lol

Is that why you wouldn't pack an antler out of a hole this fall? lol

Putting miles in pheasant hunting helps keep a guy in hiking shape. I also coach baseball and do workouts with my players. Our first winter workouts started last night and will run through March. As long as schools remain in session, our indoor facilities will remain open. I could use some treadmill/gym work but I really don't care for it.

I practice different types of exercises in the gym, but I think this is about maintaining ourselves in shape, having a beautiful body, while I also try to maintain myself healthy, and the best way I found, for maintaining ourselves healthy, is by practising yoga. I practice yoga for years along, as I know how important and useful it is. Even when there are days I do not want to practice yoga or I can't find thirty minutes, when I lack motivation, I read motivational yoga quotes and do what I have to do.

Love to hear an intro from you NathL. You've had a few interesting posts over the past 3 months. How about a little background on your past hunting experiences and anything else you wish to tell us.

Not sure on this, but I am betting there is a little bit of a spam element here....or our next hunting fitness genre will be hunting yoga.

Yeah, when I'm pumping iron or out running the roads and trails I've never thought about my "beautiful body"! :p
Although I've had a few women catcall my way so something is working.... ;)

The only time I got hit one while running was about 30 years ago I was out in LA visiting family, and went for a jog around Echo Park. They were filming a movie there with Ernest Borganine and one of the cast members commented on how good I looked and asked if I was doing anything later. He was sorta cute, but not my type.
