Just returned from a scouting trip for 4th season elk in SW Co & SE Ut. Condition have sure changed a lot since I was there in mid July. Most of the snow from a couple of weeks ago is gone and it is pretty dry. What is the most shocking thing is the lack of feed. Grass is gone, there are no acorns because of a late spring freeze and not much browse left. Hope we get some snow before 4th season or it could be slim pickins!

Thanks CC. Sounds like we're in the 4th season club, so I appreciate the weather update. Were you scouting up high? I'm hoping for some weather up high to push deer down to wintering grounds, and hopefully to kick off the rut. If you can, keep us posted on the SW Colorado weather updates when you get the chance. Hopefully we'll get some weather by the second week in November!

I concur with what has been said. I was out scouting north of Chama and there was nothing for game to eat. A little to the east I saw lots of game. Talked to the local game warden and he told me his counterparts farther west were having lots of calls about hungry bears. Any way I won't be going hunting there. Good luck to everyone
