Is there a place in the wyoming regs that will show how many hunters per 100 sq miles in general units. Thanks guys

Not that I've seen. About the only thing that I can think of is simply adding the total tags allocated in the units that make up the general unit. That'll at least give you the total possible hunters for each unit and species. I suppose you could then do the math to determine the max hpsm.

I didn't see that specifically. It gives the number of active hunters, so you would have to kindof calc. it yourself by getting a rough estimate of the area of the unit. I used to have a little rolly measurey dealie bob I could plug the map scale into and get a rough estimate of the area. Its really for construction estimating, but I think it will work. I might try it. You could get a pretty good guess by just assuming a square or triangle for the unit area with a map scale. A little labor intensive unless you had a unit narrowed down I guess. Good question, there was a deal in the MRS with limited quota numbers but I didn't see it for general units. That would be some good info. to have.

There is no way to calculate the general units without a lot of guess work that we wouldnt consider credible.

For that metric, which we introduced this year, and which I think is one of our best new data points, you need to know the number of hunters and the square mileage. WY doesn't report, and as far as I can tell, doesn't know the number of hunters in each region during the general season.

There's no reliable way to figure that out. I can't imagine any accurate figure that would account for availability of public land, individual hunter choice, and time of the season.
A better strategy would be to understand the surface management and when the most hunters will be afield. Typically opening dates and weekends will see the most traffic. Roadless areas and rough country usually knock the riff raff out.
In most areas of wyoming there is a mix of public and private. The public sees the most pressure and thus more hunters per square mile.
What in trying to figure out how bad the general unit 36,37 get hunted during rifle season and is it a tough hunt since of the private. Are the elk pressured enough in archery they are heading to private when rifle season is getting going.

You may be able to derive a form of inferential statistics by looking primarily at harvest data, relating it to the overall number of general tags and a statewide hunter success average if you can find it reported.....it would be weak, but may show you something useful. on the other hand when you start stretching that far to make some kind of reasonable correlation..

I haven't used google earth very much at all,but have used mapper acme a ton and really like it. Has anyone used that? Is it pretty close to the same thing as google earth. I like it because it has sky view, topo, road map, and u can also drop flags down and write info in the flag info box. Maybe google earth is the same.

I haven't tried it but will look into it. I already use Google Earth Pro in my business so I have it available. I don't believe the free version has all of the print capabilities or establishing waypoints to share.
