I guess I qualify as new here......I've been reading posts for about a year, though, mainly just learning from the old pros on this board. Thanks a bunch, I've learned a lot.

I didn't grow up with my dad hunting.....he just never had much time or money. We would fish on occasion, but not much. So I didn't learn many hunting / fishing skills, but backpacked a good deal in my younger days, plus got interested in foraging for wild food, so I was an outdoorsman of a different sort, I guess.

In the last few years I've finally gotten the time and money to be able to go hunting, so I've done a little in recent years. Plus, I've stumbled on an embarrassingly good hunting spot in Wyoming, one that would make you vets cry. We hunted there last year, and while we didn't see any huge trophies, the mule deer and antelope were more than plentiful. It's a meat hunter's dream. So it's probably a crime that a recent rookie like me has access to this spot, but in the spirit of keeping secrets, I'll keep mine. We'll be back again this year. Hunting is a great way to spend time and build memories with my sons and friends, and the country up there is amazing to us flatlanders....I have fun just walking around. I don't know if I'll ever get to hunt elk, but who knows what the future brings.

I'm able to hunt a little whitetail and some hogs down here in Texas, and could do some birds if I were any kind of a decent shot. Anyway, I'm grateful for all the advice on the wildlife from you vets. I'll be around, mostly reading and learning.
