During a recent backcountry hunting trip, my cousin's boots literally fell apart! They are Red Head boots and only a few years old....according to him! He had no spares and we tried several things to do a repair job on them. We even melted pitch to try and re-glue the soles. On both boots, the soles fell off. They were only sewn on the front of each sole, rest of the sole was glued on. Finally used a combination of spare laces and duct tape. Lasted the trip!

But this is a good reason to take a spare set with you if possible.

I've used the duct tape method as well. It works OK in a pinch. Another reason to buy quality boots instead of that cheap crap from china.

I never leave home without atleast 2 or 3 pair of boots. Not really cuz Im worried about them falling apart but if the weather changes I want to be prepared for anything. I got caught on an early muzzle loader hunt once totally unprepared and it snowed over a foot and turned into a miserable hunt in a hurry. Since then I have never gone anywhere not prepared for 3 feet of snow and below zero temps! So if my boots did come apart I would have something to fall back on even if it wasnt the ideal boot for the weather at the time.

Ha ha....I know the feeling. I packed my wife's sheep horns and cape out last year in the dark with the whole front end of the sole of my boot ripped free. Glad I had a spare pair in the truck!

I always carry a tube of Seal All or Plumbers Glue, which will do the repair. Better plan is stitched on soles. If hunting with rubber boots, I carry a small tire repair kit. I had a brand new pair of Lacrosse Burleys that was damages (vandalized) on a flight to Canada. Did not discover the damage until we got to camp. Patched the hole with the tire repair kit. Saved the hunt, and I am still using them 10+ years later.
