Will be doing a hunt this coming fall on horseback and need the advice of the members on what to wear to avoid the chafing on my legs after a long ride on horseback. Any thoughts on how to avoid this issue would be very much appreciated!!

Have you ridden before and had problems? If you do you might try wearing a light pair of long johns under your pants so that your pants don't rub directly on your skin.

When I did my grizzly hunt in British Colombia we did a 23 mile one way trip in and out on horses and I didn't have any problems with my legs other than just a very long ride. Even when I was in Africa and took a 17 mile horse back ride it didn't cause any problems for me or the 3 others that were riding. One bit of advise is to walk when you can, just don't sit up on the horse the whole way.

Some spandex helps ur butt, also leggings will help if you get run marks up and down your legs. Another thing is baby powder or gold bond, it helps keep everything from sticking and will reduce rashes and rub marks

I wear lightweight poly LJs when it is warmer, and switch to merino wool LJs as the temp drops. Gaiters keep your pants from riding up and I suppose help prevent any chaffing on your calves. I spent 9 days on horseback this past Sept., and never had an issue.

I spent 77 days horseback this season. I never chafe depending on the saddle sometimes I'll get a mark on my knee of there is a bulky Latigo knot. I do know people that chafe, I ride my own saddle and usually dude ranch saddles aren't the greatest in the world. As long as it's not rough out leather or the cordura saddle you should be fine. You wanna see chafing put someone in one of those cordura saddles for 4 hours, it's almost like Velcro to denim.

Key is to have the right size clothing while riding. Most chafes/rubs come from extra material rubbing and as GR said bad saddles.

Buy longer pants than normal by 2-4"...that helps. I usually ride in 36 lengths though my normal length is closer to 32. The extra material helps while riding...and you don't look as much like a dude with your pants at your knees while riding.
