There is hiking in the Berkeley hills. Most of the ridge behind Cal Berkeley I think is park, but the east bay regional park department has a good website that highlights all of their parks, and they have a ton. If you really get some time to kill, get up early and drive to Sunol regional park. prolly an hour drive from Emeryville but there is also a good chance at seeing some impressive tule elk, as well as blacktail bucks, wild boar, turkeys and maybe even a bobcat or mountain lion. Some dandy bucks up there on the cal Berkeley property as well.
