I have been applying as a group with my hunting mentors they are getting older and mobility is starting to become an issue as one is 60 the other is 75. so we are trying to draw for the fall of 2017. We will be entering the draw with 9 pp. both of the guys I am going with will have zero problem shooting a 250 inch bull. Looking for an archery turned into a rifle hunt. Looking for specific info on units that people have personal experience in. I am a member of Go Hunt and run all the odds on lots of units. Looking for someone that hunted a hard to draw unit and their experience. I have been elk hunting for four years now and have killed a couple elk, now looking to make one last special out west trip for my mentors.

So each one of you has 9 PP correct? ...what WB says above is correct, and he knows draw odds unlike anyone on any forum anywhere. . Do you plan on going guided, paying trespass, or all DIY....Basically every one of the units you mentioned does not contain any national forest...therefor you would really need to research how much public land is actually available for you to hunt on.

GoHunt is using 2015 data even though the dept's 2016 non resident draw report has been out since the end of February.

For WY odds, the dept's demand reports are really the best source; they're accurate for everything but Gen Elk tags and antlerless/doe-fawn.

I would prefer trespass fee. With this many points and the quality of Bulls available I would rather spend the money and kill a quality one.

How many times does a guy have 9+ PP for elk?
IMHO, I would stack the odds in my favor.

I hunted 108. The bow hunt was a ton of fun. lots of bugling and opportunity at 280-320 bulls almost every day. Private is an issue and at that time access was only with outfitter. Rifle hunt was tough as by noon the first morning most elk on private. Still found some smaller 5 and 6 pionts on public, but not the 320 plus ones after noon the first day of the rifle. If I wanted a fun bow hunt I wouldn't hesitate, If I wanted to rifle hunt I would pass.
