Hermosa Trail ?

Was wondering if anyone on here has been down the Hermosa Trail near Durango. Was wanting to know if the main trail head was wide enough to pull a trailer down behind out UTV. Thanks

Are you referring to the Hermosa Creek Trail that has an upper trailhead just west of Purgatory?

I went camping in this area in June 2015 and then went elk hunting in this area in November.
I would have to say no for a few reasons.
1- To access the upper trailhead, where 577 splits off of 578, there is a water crossing that is about a foot deep.
2- The actual trail is too narrow for 4 wheeled traffic in some spots
3- Bridge crossings

I hike trails in the San Juan Nat Forest all the time. You have to remember one thing, four wheelers are prohibited unless expressly listed on the NF maps. Lots of Mt bikes and motor cycles on the trails. I really have a problem allowing motor cycles on the trails as they do a lot of damage to the trails (as do mt bikes too) and are really noisy, just listen to a couple of the Youtubes mentioned in the previous posts. I know this will piss off a lot of people, but I believe hiking trails are for hikers and horse back riders.

I have to agree with Colorado Cowboy. When I was up there in November, seems like a group of hunters was having more fun going up and down the forrest road on their side x side than they were hunting.

I'm not familiar with the trail your referring to. We have a white arrow trail system in Colorado. If it's designated a road (numbered forest service road) then you should be good to go. If it's an ATV trail, it more than likely will have bollards set at 50" at the entrance. If your UTV and trailer are less than 50" then your good to go. If not, then your UTV isn't legal on that trail. The western slope seems to be behind the rest of Colorado on there trail designation but any recent travel map of the area will tell you if it's legal or not.

How far down is it til the first bridge? We are not planning on going down to far before we set up for camp. Maybe to where the East Cross Creek t's into the Hermosa Creek. Thanks
