Hello everyone. After figuring out that the Facebook login doesn't work, I was finally able to register and look around.

I am a newbie to elk hunting but not to hunting whitetails. I've been hunting for almost 30 years with the exception of "taking a break" for 7 years. I started hunting rifle for whitetails once I turned 12 and took the PA Hunters Safety course.

Now that I am in my early 40's and I have become short of obsessed with bowhunting, I have learned WAY more about hunting whitetails that I had ever learned from my dad who only did rifle.

Myself and my husband are seriously stating to look into doing an elk bowhunt in Colorado in a few years. I will be looking into these forums for lots of information, how to's etc. In addition to this, I will be in contact with a few experienced elk hunters especially a friend of mine in CO.

If any of you have any immediate feedback, suggestions, etc, feel free to comment.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
My advice is to read as much as you can, but to get out there as soon as you can do so because you will learn so much more in the field than reading a book or watching a video. Don't' get me wrong, you can learn a lot from reading and watching, but it'll only teach you so much. Besides, walking the woods learning is fun'r anyway!
Any question, simply ask. Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome, I'm originally from a small town about 30 mile outside Pittsburgh. Been living in Colorado since 2002. So far I just rifle hunt, not bow ... but that does sound like fun. Go Steelers!!

I absolutely agree with you. I need to start contacting the DOW and biologists to decide what areas I want to start to research that are OTC. I'm sure I'll be looking over these forums A LOT.

I've been in contact with an old neighbor who lines in Estes Park and works in RMNP. He is a big hunter and the phone conversation I had with him was very informative. This is definitely possible and I will be looking at an "in between DIY and outfitter". I have a few more calls to make and then contact the DOW and biologists to find what GMU I should start to look at that are OTC.
