Hello my Name is James Aka TheHotDuke, I am in my upper 40tys and last year is when I started hunting again from before when I was around 17yrs old. I bagged a mule deer last year in the Owyhee's. this year will be the first year hunting for my 17yr old and my 10yrs old boys. My GF will also be along as well. We drew Cow Elk tags for Unit 39-1 in Idaho. have been scouting last 3 or 4 weeks and welcome any pointers and tips have received some helpful ones as well. FYI we are defiantly first time Elk hunters and we are just starting out so we lack some tools such as our own ATVS, truck, but we do have a camper just still need something's for it. Any suggestion of where and how are welcomed. this year it will be a bit tough to do the hike way back into the back country to find Cow Elk as we just aren't equipped nor in the shape this year to attempt that . So with that in mind look forward to Hearing from anyone willing to chat.

no need to hike way back in for a cow. I would head up middle fork towards atlanta. once you pass phifer cr rd ,just pick a ridge get up high and glass,glass, glass . once you find em make a plan and stalk. country is steep and atv won't be much help. plus side is , if you kill one it will probably be downhill to the truck. good luck on your hunt and don't forget the camera.

Welcome James. Lots of great people and info here. Enjoy the moment. You will be in the woods with your boys and GF. Animals are extra! Don't put too much pressure on it all and just have fun!
