HDs 102, 120 & 170

Hey Guys I'm from Louisiana and will be elk hunting for the first time in one of these districts next season if I'm lucky enough to draw.

I got invited to hunt on private property, but I was wondering if any one could shed some light on any wilderness areas that allow for public hunting in any of these 3 Hunting Districts.

Any information about these three HDs would be much appreciate.

I would like to know more about Flathead National Forest as well. Are there good concentrations of elk there? is it mostly high country? Is it flooded with hunters during the rifle season?

I've never hunted out west before so I am very green. Any information would be great.

Hunted region 1 for a season a couple years ago, mostly 100, 101, and 102. Don't know about private land but it was a very difficult task finding elk on public. Did not see one as a matter of fact. I was hunting deer also and there were lots of little bucks but nothing of any size.

Where you hunting in the Flattops National Forest?

I'll be hunting on private land primarily, I just wanted a back up plan if there were no elk there.

Was there a lot of hunting pressure when you were hunting and what season were you hunting? Gun or Bow?

But beware of MT, people from out of state come and visit and hunt, but often come back perminately! You could be house hunting soon as well.
