I'm a 7mm guy. If you look at the nuts and bolts .284 cal or the .30 cal the .284 slightly better. The 2 are sooo close it really doesn't matter.

understood. Very very slight edge to the 7 as long as you get ammo or reload.
However ammo is not an issue with 300, nor is bullet assortment.

Found a lot of good reviews on the gun. However you do find these...
Thoughts?
"""The only way to get any information on these A7 rifles is to call Beretta. They do not have a BC medalist stock on them they do not have full aluminum bedding on them either. What they do have is a fiberglass stock with an aluminum lug and the only way to figure out exactly what that is you must take the action out of the stock to see it. It must be re-torqued to 49-55 inch pounds. All said they are a very fine shooting rifle. What I also found out from Beretta was you can take off the aluminum slotted scope mounts and use Browning A bolt II mounts. They are much stronger."""

Looks like a good deal to me. You sure can't get hurt in either caliber or by the price. I've never owned a 7mag but I probably need to some day. Let us know how you like it, if you get one.

After a lot of research, I've decided to pass on this particular rifle. The A7 has a troubled pass. You could get lucky and get a good one, but I'll keep searching. I did stumble upon the "ranger long range rifles out of Katy, Tx. Rem 700 Sendaro semi custom start at $2,600.
Timney trigger and Vortex LR scope. Thought their prices were much cheaper than others. Anyone have an opinion on them out of curiosity?

Are you dead set on a bolt action platform? If not, take a hard look at the Browning BAR's. Lots of stock options in the new long trac models......wood, composite, camo etc. In large magnum calibers, these are some of the sweetest shooting firearms you will ever try. The action takes up a lot of the recoil. Very accurate rifles. A long, well documented history of quality, accuracy and custmer satisfaction. Just sayin........might be worth a look. Gunbroker.com has a good selection of new and used BAR's.

I put together a great scope/gun combo with a Tikka T3 (Sako's little brother) for about the price you are looking to spend on the Sako alone. Mine is in 300 wsm and I hand load. Sub MOA or right at MOA with hand loads. Only drawback I have found in the gun so far is that the magazine doesn't let me extend the cartridge OAL to seat the bullet closer to the lands or to use the longer bullets like Burger. I have found that no matter if I am shooting Sierra GK or Nosler Partitions if I seat them out as far as the magazine will let me they group really well. Just my 2 cents worth. As far as caliber I have a 284 win and I like the bullet selection I get with it and with the 300 wsm I shoot 150 GK for antelope and 165 Nos Partitions for everything else. (If I draw that moose tag I will look at some 200's) I don't think you would go wrong with either. If most of your hunting is for Elk on down I would go with the 7 mag. I think you'll love either gun the Sako or the Tikka.

As in my last post take a look at the Tikka's. I feel good out to 500 (from a prone position) with mine. I don't have a fancy Huskama or Nightforce on it. Just a solid Leuapold 3-9 x 50. Post up your final decision with some pics! We all love to buy vicariously! LOL

The tikka's I looked at just did not look good to me. Not to say they won't shoot. It's just was on the rack at the time.
I'd think those light guns would kick! :) I know you don't notice this in the "moment", but I like to practice how I hunt....
You've got to be "holding high" on targets out past 350 or so. Not so conducive on a speed goat...?
Appreciate the reply.

I like the looks of those a7's. I looked at them, but ended up getting the tikka superlite at sportsmans warehouse. FYI, I think cabelas is going going to have a Black Friday sale on in stock a7's.

After a lot of research on the A7, they are problamatic 50/50 and not a true Sako.
Figured I'd pass. For the money I can get a better quality gun, but not a true top of the line Sako.
Thanks for the input.

You should take a look at the Weatherby backcountry. They had one at sportsmans, just not in a caliber I liked. Seemed to be really put together.

I was a little worried about kick with my 300wsm but it doesn't (to me) kick any harder then my 25-06. As for the holdover I know my hold overs at 400 and 500 yards. My scope goes from a thick post to a thin wire at the cross hairs. It works out that the point of where the thick to thin meeting is my 400 yard hold so I'm not guessing. Past 500 and a prone position I would pass the shot or do some more crawling and sneaking to get withen the 400 yard wheel house.

FYI that is what is called a duplex reticle!
