Im gonna be hunting the ML season. Only drew a cow tag. Has anyone heard how the herd population is doing this year. Have hunted the general area for 4 years now. Im a non rez. Usually hunt the buzzard divide. Thinking about hunting around overland reservoir this year. Just no time to go scout this summer

Welcome to the site. As CHCTRY eluded to .....please visit the new members section for an intro. It greatly helps people understand how to answer the questions and help you out with the best info.

421 is solidly above/north of the current drought monitor map which has a good chunk of SW Co under a drought. That being said I would expect good hunting again this year with above average #s of animals. Hence the many tags in the Grand Mesa area as herd #s have been above management target for a while now. Best advice for 421 is to mark up your map of all access points, trails and roads and look for the dead spots that the pressured animals will go to. As you probably already know a very very heavy ATV/summer vacation/camping GMU with plenty of water.

We hunt 421 every year 4th season rifle cow. #s of animals are there. Just gotta find em. Good Luck.

Yeah its a heavily hunted unit. Got into the elk last year about 2 miles off of the atv trails. Plan to got back to that area. Thanks for the input. Glad to hear they've had water in that unit.
