Hey Folks

I've been reading the forum here for a while, but finally decided to join up.

I live in Northern Ontario, on Lake Superior close to the Minnesota border. We have some excellent whitetail deer and black bear hunting here, and fantastic moose hunting a little to the N of us. I grew up in Southern Ontario bowhunting deer, and chasing waterfowl and turkeys, but my career brought me to the North, working in natural resources field. I'm lucky to have a wife that loves hunting and fishing, and we have a 7 year old Deutsch Drahthaar who is a bird finding machine.

We've hunted pheasants in North Dakota for the past 6 seasons and always enjoy ourselves. We love the plains, the little communities and the people we meet on each trip. I'd say we're definitely more upland hunters, but we always fill our deer tags, and some years we go for bears. This year we decided to start researching and planning some Western big game hunting trips. We can't get enough of the prairie landscape!

I'm happy to provide any advice I can on hunting in Canada, so feel free to message me or reply here. This forum has been so helpful already, and I'm happy to pay it back.

Welcome to the group.
I've been through thunder bay once years ago. Tried to hunt wolves further to the north east. Don't remember the area without looking.
I was ready for the extreme cold but my car wasn't. I barely got to hunt at all as I couldn't keep it running. I'll try again someday.
I grew up in upper Michigan btw. On the south side of lake superior

Our winters sure can be tough on the vehicles. Nothing like getting back to the vehicle after a cold day in the bush and praying that it'll fire up.

We have an interesting mix of both coyotes and wolves around us. I've seen more wolves this year than ever. I'm not sure I could pull the trigger on one myself. They sure don't help our deer and moose numbers, but I feel an affinity towards them. Maybe someday I'll take one.

We had some friends from Detroit visiting, and I pointed out Isle Royale and said "look, you can see Michigan from here." I gotta get out to the island some day.

Welcome to the forum; I live not too far south from you. I have a canoe trip to Isle Royale planned for this summer with a Canuck from Wawa. We always see moose on these trips, some of them right in camp.

Hey, I love Two Harbours. When headed West, thats always the first McDonalds that we stop at for a coffee and a McMuffin. I always enjoy spending time down that way.

I remember that show! Used to be on Wild TV all the time, but I can't think of the guys name.

Quite a few shows get filmed around here. We're known for good whitetail bucks with unique dark brown antlers. Good bear hunts in the area as well, and fairly accessible with a bigger airport than most of the surrounding smaller cities. There's another show called The Search - I don't have cable now, so I haven't seen it, but he films around here. I think they're based out of Dryden.

The nice thing with Thunder Bay is we have some decently hilly topography. With some big burns and cuts, you can actually pull off a good spot and stalk deer hunt for whitetails, or moose if you're lucky to get a tag. Our spring bear hunt is back as well. I may go for one this May, rather than chasing turkeys down south.
