Taking my grandson out for his first western hunt antelope in area 43. We got Diamond lake WMA permits. My first time to this area. I'm 67 and he'll be 12. Don't know how many more I may get to go. Want this one to be very special. Any help would be appreciated. We'll be hunting Oct 6-14.

Best thing you can do is make sure you both can accurately shoot 300 yards plus, and do some extra walking to get in shape. If your going to be there for a week, time is on your side, and you shouldn't have any problems find a good buck. Good luck!

You should have a great hunt. Bring your fishing gear, Diamond Lake and Rock Creek access will have good fishing along with other nearby spots. Diamond Lake is full right now. The area is pretty green too and monsoon rains as of last few days. You'll be a distance from supplies , Laramie, Rock River or the Hunt Rd exit truck stop for fuel on I-80.

highknob;

I just turned 68 and will be hunting deer and cow elk solo in WY this fall. I plan to hunt WY until I physical can't or forget how to drive there. Time will limit us at this age as it takes so many years to draw a good deer or antelope tag.
I may have to change my strategy and put in for regional deer tag that I can draw ever year and GOD FORBID, apply for one of those NE. left over antelope tags, but at least it's hunting in WY.
Good luck on your hunt.

I'll be 77 this October and for the last 10 years I have hunted mostly solo as my lifelong hunting partner passed away. I hunt Wyoming, Colorado, California and Texas for elk, deer, antelope and hogs. Just keep active, do some walking and spend time shooting and you should do fine.

Luckily Wyoming has an out of town football game that time frame, home game weekends will make for filled up hotels and a busy town.

I hunted a hma out of Laramie a few years back with the family. Had to stay in Rawlins due to a home game and nothing available. Learned my lesson. Lol
Dad don't sleep on the ground anymore hence the need for a hotel.

Got reservations in Laramie already. Did that even before the draw. But we could camp too. We do 3 wks. camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Va. whitetail hunting every year. We're planning on pdog hunting too. Got a place close too the Neb border on a private ranch to shoot. Bringing his AR for those. Hope we can find some to shoot close by also.

You can find pd within an hour of your antelope area, they are pretty much all over . You'll also be very close to the north end of the Snowy Range for a little mountain time if wanted.

If you camp, I recommend camping up in the Snowy Range like Wy-tex mentioned. I hunt in a nearby area, and camp up in the timber to get out of the wind. There are lots of campsites in the area, and the drive down into 43 isn't bad at all. Deer, elk, and moose are a common sight while driving out the north end of the NF.

You know I didn't think about the Snowy Range. I think they even have a cabin or two to rent but I'm sure much to late for those. I've crossed there and elk hunted over on the divide at Jack Creek. It's amazing how much slips your mind as you get older. Thanks for reminding me.
