scroll down till you find unit 421 and read about it.Go on the colorado fish and parks and spend some time on there website there is some very good info that is where i did all my research when i was planning a hunt. You can use there maps and see where all the migration routes, topo maps and about everything you will need for your hunt.

We hunted that area last fall and the elk were already headed down the sides onto private during ML season. If you are going 3rd rifle take a look at the BLM land at lower elevation. My best info was from the local biologist. Do some research - then call her and she is very willing to discuss your plan with you.

Hunted 421 in 2014 for elk and mule deer. Hot temps had elk on top of the Mesa or in the high country for the most part. Chased a herd up chalk mountain another hunter shot at them. Only saw 3 other elk. Mule deer everywhere however.

Took a cow elk at the headwaters of a creek, just below the rim of the mesa in 2014. 3rd season. As Antlerville stated, hot temps had elk up high. Most hunters were lower, on BLM land, which is where the elk would have been during a "normal" autumn. Actually, during the 1st rifle season in 2014, we had snow and the elk were down lower.
