Here are some photos taken through my spotting scope while scouting for bears. The bear in the snow is a bit fuzzy, it was taken from over 2 miles away through the Swarovski spotter and my phone. The brown sow sleeping with yearling cub was cool to spot and there is a black sow on rocky face with 3 new born cubs, and a scenic of the kind of area that might hold bears. Been fun glassing and running around the mountains seeing all kinds of game. Elk also - 20150325_114347.jpg

That is pretty cool 7shot. Would you say it is unusual to see so many bears out this early, in your area? I have been hearing of guys seeing bears already here in central MT which I think is a little unusual this early in the spring, but it has been a pretty mild winter so it should be a great spring bear season. Only 3 more days to go!

We usually have some bears out in early to mid April, but the high elevation bears may still be covered up in snow. Our snow melt is up to about 6,000 feet now so there is a lot of ground exposed and good green-up, so if a bear wants to wake up and eat, there is plenty out there with our early spring this year.

I am scouting for my sons hunt, they drew a controlled hunt for spring bears in western Idaho, units 22,31,32 and 32a are all controlled hunt for bear.

There's no where in Northern Idaho you can see 100 yards, let alone 2 miles. But we do have some bears.
Very cool pics!

You are right, this is not northern Idaho. North of Boise, but still central Idaho. I'd really like to get up north and do some spot and stalk hunting bear with the 2nd tag if we are successful. It looks like there are some clear cuts or old logging areas up north that would be fun to glass over.
