I have one of the Vortex ranger 1000 rangefinders and for the money I paid, way worth the money. I hunt with a guy that has Leica Geovid 10x42 with a built in rangefinder and he consistently can range out 200 to 300 yards further than me. But he paid $1500 and I paid $350. But every deer I have stalked has been inside of 500 yards when I shot. Thats my comfort zone, so I like my decision.Vortex has a 1,500 unit said to be coming out this summer, could be worth a look.
The op asked what we were using and likewise I gave my opinion on my experience. I would not have posted false/incorrect info, vortex verified that +/-3 is in fact at 1000 yds and not any and all readings and that margin of error is proportionate to the distance. Hence the "theoretically" statement. Different color targets will potentially elicit different readings as will brightness, and several other factors. If shooting today's archery equipment 1 yd is not going to change my pin placement nor my cross hairs on my rifle at 400 yds. Most rangefinders also will round up to the yd.Finsandtines - that is incorrect. The +/- 3 yards is for any and all readings. Not 1000 yards. I am not saying every reading I get is 3 yards off if I try another read. I am saying that I have personally seen the variation in my backyard at ranges from 25-40 yards while ranging a black box target and a brown 3d target side by side.
In the field while ranging next to a new Nikon and a leupy 650 I am generally spot on with them (at angles and all). Just trying the help the OP decide with my experiences.
