kinda long, but here we go....
Last November found me incredibly out of shape, looking over an elk wondering how I was ever going to get him out and back to the truck, a whole mile and a half away. I passed up the shot and it really sunk in, I needed to get back into shape.
Back in 1988 I blew out my knee while in the Navy, folded it right in half...the wrong way. Torn ACL, PCL, separated my hamstring and tore the lateral head of my calf. I did it good. After 2 sugeries and a year of PT, it did ok for about 10 years but had slowly began hurting more as my age kept creeping up. After my depressing hunt last year I really started looking for what to do to get back in shape. I started getting the "rooster booster" shots in the bad knee and found a HUGE decrease in pain. The shots really have been amazing.
So now it was my time to do something about the less than optimal health I was in. I cut out about 90% of the fast food, started exercising nearly daily, and generally getting off my butt.
In November of 2014, I was sitting at 228 pounds and about a 38" waist.
I set some goals: 1st, get my weight down to 205 by hunting season, and obviously, 2nd, to be in much better shape.
Fast forward to today, time for the annual physical, all the blood work and other stuff that goes along with turning 50
. Then came the scale, I knew I had lost a fair amount of weight, but hadn't been on scale for about a month. 204.5! I and down to a 34" waist, and even its getting to be too big!
yep, July 20th and I hit my first goal! This fall I have a hunt I've wanted a while and its been a big motivator to me to get back into shape, as has the "getting back in shape" thread.
Anyway, just wanted to share the "it can be done" story. And, remember, we still have another month to keep pounding away to get in even better shape!
