I want to start off I am not looking for any honey holes. I have done looked over the unit on Topo and google earth. But I am looking for what areas are hit hardest. I see a lot of outfitter camps just above lower hermosa creek trail head I am looking at hermosa wilderness area. 3 mile pack in. I hunted 55 in past. Also are the mule deer spread in unit or they further south towards Durango. Any information is appreciated.

Start by going into the new members section and doing an intro....it tends to soften up the crowd a little.

2nd check out the CDOW hunting atlas and utilize the overlays.....it paints a good picture.

Lastly thanks for your service.....27 year Navy guy here..

Thanks you for your service. My hunting group is all veterans who served together and this is our yearly get together.. We all served on USS Princeton CG-59. I going out in June scouting I pretty much know what I need.. Just wanted to see where crowds gather.

I live in the area and have hunted 74 quite a bit in M/L season. The wilderness area you mention is brand new and the Forest Service is getting it marked as such. It is in the southern part of the unit and pretty close to Durango and heavily used by outfitters. the trailheads parking can get to be an issue. If you are willing to hike in (as you said) and get away from the camps, it will increase your odds. I quit hunting the southern part of the unit because of this.

The scouting you plan on doing will be very good for your knowledge, remembering that during hunting season, everything changes.
