I am new to this forum and new to elk hunting period. We have planned a hunt in 62 for the 3rd rifle season. Private ranch either in or bordering unit. I have read enough already to know it's probably the most crowded unit, but can you still see elk ? And am I being misled by telling me I can buy OTC bull tag on arrival? Just don't want to miss our opportunity to have tag in hand. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm used to chasing Mississippi whitetail, but now I have the opportunity to bring my Dad on a elk hunt. Thanks

You can get an OTC tag for 3td season in unit 62.

You can see elk too. If your on private land that will definitely help. If you see a legal bull I'd be shooting cuz you might not see another! It can be tough hunting with lots of people. Being mobile & willing to move all over to find elk will help. Good luck!

Most folks that hunt elk in 62 try to hunt the divide road between 62 and 61 thinking that the Bulls will be pushed out of 61. It is a big unit that is a mesa with no traditional high country. The good thing about a OTC general tag is that is you don't find what your looking for in 62 you have 63,64,53,411,52 and 521 you can also hunt within a short distance. Look over the entire are and spend your entire 9 days hunting. Good luck,
