I've used the app hunting the past two seasons and always end up using the handheld gps. The app on my phone seems to rarely works and that is even after deleting and reinstalling. It works great in cell range but our of cell range it is a pain. That just my experience though. I will say when it works and loads on the phone it is amazing

How old is your phone? That might have something to do with it.

I hunted with a guy 5-6 years ago who had the HUNT app on his phone and I don't recall anytime that we felt it was not working correctly even though we were out of cell range for most of the hunt.

I've never seen any reviews on the GPS quality of different phones or tablets, but it wouldn't surprise me if they vary some.

I think it does help to have both GPS and GLONASS, both for accuracy and speed of picking up the satellite signal, and like anything electronic, it improves with each new phone version. I tried out a new high end outdoors watch (SUUNO) and it claimed faster connections and more accuracy having both systems.

Here's another thing. Make sure your phone location services are set to High Accuracy (Android) which uses GPS. Otherwise, your phone will just be using wifi (if you have it turned on), maybe Bluetooth and cell towers.

On Android phones it is under Settings-Location Services.

On iPhones it is under Settings-Privacy-Location Services. Toggle it to on so that it uses all location services, including GPS.

90%+ times of computer problems is user don't know how to use it, when I have some problems with my comp or cell, I know that I have to do more research and learn.
Thank you guys for your help!

My phone is a iPhone 6, I've had success with the app before but last season when push came to shove it did not work.

You're right here, computes and technology can be difficult and require research with a problem. I find apps hard to research when user interface is limited and basically touch and go. I spent a lot of time making sure everything was setup correctly, on my phone and app, but in my case it didn't work when. I needed it on several occasions. I am still trouble shooting if it is my hardware or what, but when the app worked it was awesome.
