Hi All

Was having problems with neighborhood kids getting into our irrigation box and screwing with it. No problem, put a padlock on it. Wanting to set up game cams to be sure or at least ID the perpetrators (plus I want some game cams anyways, see below).

Brought up a question that might be relevant for folks setting out game cams on public land;

Won't humans see the flash or at leas the IR beam if it goes off at night and therefore inviting them to vandalize or steal it?

In other words, if this does keep happening, is it possible to find a model that won't emit any light thus giving away its position? Plus I have some areas I want to set them in my hunting grounds, and although it is a remote area, I'm afraid they'll be spotted. Just going by the old advice that if you think you're remote, assume at least 100 others think the same. It is public land after all....

What do y'all think?

Always had blur issues with motion on blackout cams, but at least they go unseen for the most part.

If you know they'll walk off, Natchez has refurb truthcams for $35ish every once in a while. Those can be dummy cams.

I have lost more cams than I can remember. If you leave them over the weekend during the cool season on the public lands I hunt they will almost certainly be gone. Ive tried putn them 15 ft up and still gone. I even tried the "dummy" cam approach and they stole the decoy cam and the spy cam 20 ft above under a limb. I think most of my thefts have occurred during the day so a blackout wouldn't have helped. I have got to where I put them up on mon and take them down on Friday. This is more disturbance than I want but since Ive been doing it I haven't lost another one. The security boxes will only keep an honest person from viewing ypur card because if a thief wants it they will get it or destroy it one way or the other.

I don't have to deal with Public land so much, but when I buy one, i use a paint pen,and write my name on it more times than you would want to remove it. I might also etch my name in it. That way neighbors know it's mine, and I will pound them into the ground if they take it and they have to be pretty ballsie to use it with my name on it. They also make cable locks.

I think that's important, I even do it at work on power tools. An employee walked out with brand new Stihl chain saw. I got on my guys and ask why they didn't put our name on it. Would he have walked out it he had to take it home with the company name on it in every single spot we could write it? It makes it more difficult to sell, too. It won't stop the hardcore thieves, but will sure make the casual ones think twice.

I do anything I can to make them think twice about stealing it. I even write my name all over my tree stands. The IR glow cameras are seen only if you look at them. I will also put tape over the flashing red light most of them have.

I guard my barn when I go away on vacation with them. I always leave a sign asking them if they found the six other cameras(always more than I have, so they always think they are missing some), by an obvious one left out to see. The cameras are the least of my concerns if they get into my barn.

I have records of my neighbors on my property at night, and even driving a 4 wheel vehicle around it. I always ask them if they know who this is in the picture without accusing them, so I can call the sheriff. They will fess up and get the idea I mean business.

It's hard to stop those cockroaches.

Using my third generation night vision all the Infra Red cameras make it look like daylight. Swampokie I did leave some cameras out between trips on Osier. They were there when I came for the and the elk had found them, deer did not show any interest.
