Tahoe, Yosemite,
Hi all.

Wondering if anyone has some recommendations if I should hunt with this old gun or put it away? It's a 270 22"barrel 1944. I fell in love instantly at how light it was and wonder how well I can expect it to shoot with the 22" barrel and maybe some bullet recommendations for this old girl if I decide to hunt with her.

Thanks for the input.

No finer gun ever made!!! Mine made in 1949 shoots 130 grain Remington corelokts very well and is the main gun I hunt with!

No, no it won't shoot at all, in fact it is nothing more than a wall hanger! I'll take it off your hands and display it. Yes I jest!

As long as the barrel is good, it will probably shoot as good as the day it was made. Treat it like you would your best girl friend or wife and love it to death. Congratulations you own a classic!

It was made to hunt with and would be a SIN not too! Get that thing out and use it! A classic load would be a 130 gr. Nosler Partition (or Accubond) behind anywhere from about 58-62 grs. of H4831SC. It will kill anything that you want with it. I think a 6x36 or 6x42mm Leupold fixed power scope with the LR dots reticle set for the ballistics of the LOAD you are are going to work up for it would be an excellent choice as well. David

Sweet guns! I have a model 70 from 1962 chambered in .243 that my grandpa left me. He hunted deer in the 1960's with it and never shot a deer so after he passed away I ended up with the gun, sighted it in with 100Gr partitions and shot a deer in MN with it

You should use yours too!

Some may scoff at me, but it would be neat to refinish that stock and have the checkering cleaned up. I cannot tell how the metal looks, but it would be nice to have it re-blued. It's a handsome rifle but it would really dress up nice.
