My Grandfather would probably just have a fit if he was alive seeing pike & bass in the river. He was born and raised in Stevensville and fished the Bitterroot and Burnt Fork a lot. Back then it was mostly trout. I remember him telling me his uncle (who was a Metcalf) used to use a little dynamite on occasion. Times have changed.
When my Grandfather was a kid, he and his gang (that's what he called them) were nicknamed by their teachers "The Burnt Fork Savages". Ride horses to school and hunt or fish on the way home.

Them's some savages I'd have liked to meet I suspect. A small river/creek in AK I fished a bunch has been ruined by an unofficial Northern Pike introduction. Careful when you mess with mother nature...

Sorry but that is the dumbest sign I've ever seen. Who approved what looks like a guy fly fishing for Largemouth with a rapala. Is the Bitterroot Valley now on the B.A.S.S. Masters tour? Smh. Definitely don't think of bass when I think of Montana much less Bitterroot Valley, MT.

My Grand Dad was born in 1888 and lived in Stevensville until 1903.....no electricity then either! The only thing they worried about was Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which my Great Grandmother died of.

He'll, our spot in Montana has no Tv, barely radio reception although I did hear my Giants win three World Series in the last 5 years!
