My friends and I drew 73-1 and will be there later on in the season.
Not sure exactly where we'll be hunting / camping yet, as we've never been there before and are doing our research now.

I'm hoping that there may be some decent fishing available as well and wondered if anyone could point us in at some options??

Thank you in advance, BT53

I've hunted there several times and the biggest body of water I've seen is a small dam on the north side of Camel Hump. Not sure if there are any fish there, but normally that time of year the water is pretty stagnant. I also lucked out and not only drew 73, I drew a 34-1 deer (same area) also.

Excellent! That should be a great double dip hunt!

Googling "fishing near Casper" gives a lot of information, but it's all based south of there.

Maps show several streams in the unit, but whether they're open or fishable is the question.

Thanks for the response, robsev.

The Platte river baby...it's a blue ribbon fishery and it runs right through the middle of Casper. Big trout are the norm.

It looks like there's quite a few smaller streams that run through the upper half of the unit, where I think we may be hunting.

They look like they could be entertaining...... I'll have to scope out the regulations. Just interested in C&R fly fishing for the most part.

I think some of those streams might be pretty seasonal without much for fish, but I am not very familiar with that area. A little further north out of that unit into the southern end of the Big Horns, those small streams are year roundish and do have fish. Like Robsev was saying, some of those areas have small irrigation reservoirs that get stocked, but I didn't really see any public ones on the game and fish site. Casper, Kaycee, Thermop. are all fairly close with fishing but not in that unit it looked like to me, pretty much like wy-tex was saying.

Thanks for the replies people.

I'll snag the regs when I get there and make sure I'm fishing open waters.

I'll assume that any stream with reasonable flow rate at that time of year can hold resident trout and give it a toss.

I'm really looking forward to this WY trip! Just the sight seeing alone will make it worth while :)

Those streams were all but dried up when we were there. I didn't see a single body of water to fish in, but obviously we didn't cover the whole unit. Nice tag, you will have a blast!
