Perch are my favorite fish to eat, but catching nice ones is a feast or famine situation. But when you get into them, it makes all the skunked trips worthwhile

The northerns will take a toll on the perch depending on the numbers of the other fish that they prey on.
There is a reservoir in central Utah that had a great perch population until someone planted some northerns in. The northerns grew fast with a plentiful food source. Now most of the perch are gone and the northerns are dying off. They ate themselves out of house and home.
here in Idaho you can hardly drop a line In a reservior and not catch perch by the bucketful. problem is every one keeps em ,no matter how big they are and then bitch because there are no big ones.
same goes for crappie

If there are too many of them their growth will be stunted because that can't get enough to eat.
We have a reservoir that has crappie in and years ago you couldn't catch one bigger than your hand. But you could catch a limit of 20 of them in 1/2 hour. The CP&W planted some tiger muskies into it and they took care of a lot of crappie, northerns, trout, and smaller bass. Now you can fish it and actually catch a crappie that is worth catching.

Headed down to New Orleans last week for some work travel. Tacked on a few extra days to catch some Redfish. A buddy took me down to his spot on Southern LA for a day and a half. We hammered the Redfish both days, catching everything in about 2 feet of water. Sight fishing was a bit difficult, since it was really windy, and we had intermittent cloud cover. But, we were constantly on fish, and it was an absolute blast. I was a bit shocked at how hard the Redfish fought, and how aggressive they were when it came to hitting the baits. Every fish I caught just hammered my lure.
South Louisiana is a neat place. Miles and miles of shallow water, it's a duck hunters dream come true. My buddy's 'camp' overlooks the entire estuary, and has GIGANTIC alligator gar (not to mention alligators), right off his back deck.
Best part of the trip was bringing home a cooler full of the best eating fish on the planet!

Got my step dad his first fish in 40 plus years. 10 lbs plus 26 inch cutthroat
Went out today with my uncle, cousin and brother. Caught a bunch of bass not keepers by a little bit. A few panfish se kept 3 of the bigger ones, and a ton of perch some good size ones kept 18 of them put a bunch of smaller ones back. Great day on the water

When this thread I started came back up, I realized I hadn't posted picts from our trip. My wife Joyce pointing to her #50 Halibut and our Razor Clams. Great time....lots of great eating too. We brought home #50 pounds of halibut and razor clams.The King Salmon was about #40.

Grouper and a hammer. Black grouper was caught off the Abacos and the hammer was off Boca in Florida.

Went fishing by the dam in town Tuesday as we had a early group 400 or so salmon come up the river to the damn monday. Was crowded but my brother got 2 nice fish and I had one spit the line at shore.
