This year was my first time ever hunting Wyoming Mule Deer. I was lucky enough to take this buck on October 15th with my dad by my side. I'm 27 years old and this is the first deer we have ever taken together. Very special moment for both of us! To top the hunt off we had a giant 6x6 bull elk push my buck across the valley right to within 300 yards of us. The rest was history when I squeezed off a round from my new Savage Model 111 .270! Not sure on what he will score, and I know he's not the biggest buck, but I can't quit smiling! Very happy with what i'm taking back home to Indiana!

I would be smiling to if I shot that buck. I am also from Indiana, and I have worked with some guys from Brookville a few times.

Way to REPRESENT! Who says an Indiana flat lander cant hang with the western mountain men? I am also a HOOSIER who just recently purchased Wyoming preference points to start my quest for a muley. I can only hope it will end with a smile that is hard to put away! That is an accomplishment to be proud of. Would like to hear the whole story sometime.

Great job! I'm doing my first mulie hunt next month. I hope I'm as fortunate as you were.

What ammo did you use in your .270?

I used Hornady SST 130 grain. For out of the box ammo I was very happy with the groups I could hold with my rifle. My buck made it about 40 yards after the shot, but he wasn't all shot to pieces, which I was very pleased with.

That's the round I used on whitetail last year as well. Thanks for the info.
