Just picked up a CVA optima v-2 muzzleloader.Never had inline before so never had the choice to use pellets.Looking to find a load to hunt whitetail in Iowa.Most shooting is in the 50-100yd range

Good luck! What caliber? My son has a cva inline in .45 caliber his is sighted in for 100 yards with two 50 grain pellets, not sure off hand was brand of powder or bullets. I have a .50 cal Austin Halleck and prefer to load loose powder. I use the triple seven and have been happy with it. My inline is dead on at 150 yards with 110 grains of loose triple seven and 250 grain shock wave sabots from Thompson center. I would suggest the use of loose powder to really fine tune your new rifle. Only way to go in my opinion.

Don't mess with pellets! As Blaze said, loose powder will give you the best accuracy due to being able to more accurately measure your powder.
If it is legal where you hunt, go with Blackhorn 209 powder. You will be glad you did. Nothing is even close in performance. It's awesome powder. Minimal residue, so you won't need to swab between shots. My experience has been very consistent shot to shot velocities. Cleans up with normal centerfire rifle products, with products such Hoppe's 9.

I prefer loose powder too. only good thing about pellets is you dont spill powder all over when your trying to reload in a hurry lol. I think I can reload just as fast or faster with loose powder then pellets. I use 100 grains of 777 fffg in my knight. I always hear good things about the blackhorn 209 but I cant use it here in WA because I cant use a 209 primer here. I have noticed 777 burns alot cleaner with a 209 then a musket cap.

Another reason to think about not using pellets is the fact they do not fit snug against your barrel and the do not fit in your breach plug. There is a lot of void space to deal with this making it less consistent. An avid pellet user told me he uses them because ease of reloading, I rebutted just what mm said, your are pouring premeasured powder down a barrel vs placing pellets down a barrel, both are very fast.
