Myself and hunting partner went back into our old hunting area to scout for his sons deer tag.
We put him in as a second draw so we could check the unit to see if the deer population has come back and the pressure has dropped.
The pressure has definitely fallen off and we were very happy to see the trails grown over with vegetation and the roads to the trails are only slightly used.
The numbers are still not good but the quality is still there. The genetics have always been awesome here as you can see in the following photos. Most big bucks are 25-26? wide and 26-28? tall with good mass. There is also a cactus buck gene too although we didn?t see any this trip.
The full moon and warm temps I think kept some of the bucks close to bedding areas.
We will be back for the Oct 5th opened to see if we can find the buck we call Whitey and another 180? I didn?t get a photo of.

Yes for sure.
One of the other reasons we stopped hunting here is due to lions. I would bet he was lion killed but he was not buried at all so who knows.

We cut a lion track by a spring about 1000 yards from where my dog found the head. I also know there was 5 lions killed within about 2 miles circumference of where we found him.
