I just signed up for my first elk/mule deer hunt and I am really excited about it. I will have accesss to several private ranches. I think its District 560. I will be there the first week in November. I am just waiting on the license draw then I will start "gearing up".

Congrats- The planning and waiting over the next several months will be torture and fun all at the same time. Good luck on your hunt!

You are where I was this time last year. Hilltop is right. I really enjoyed the anticipation and gearing up. It will be here and gone before you know it. Good Luck on your draw!

Thanks for the encouragement folks. I just need a General Big Game combo license (no elk or deer permit) so hopefully I will draw a tag.

There have been leftover deer/elk combos every year since they raised the price a few years ago so you should draw no problem!

Well its official. I found out yesterday that I'm headed to MT in Nov. for my first big game hunt. Only needing a big game combo license (no elk or deer permit) I felt confident that I would be selected but you never know. It's time to start "gearing up" and getting in better shape. November will be here before I know it. Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement.

montana is a great state for a first hunt dont be shy to knock on doors for permission alot of nice people in that state. I dont know where your from but ive found that ranchers in montana really like walleye bring them a couple bags of walleye and the gates will open HA!
