First Bear

Finally took my first bear after hunting them for the last 3 years, it was a great hunt and happened quickly. Hunted opening day without seeing any bear sign, next day decided to move to a completely different area, went to one of my favorite glassing spots and glassed for about 10 minutes when this guy walked out of the oak brush, i watched it feed in and out of the opening and oak brush for probably 20 minutes. When i was sure there were no cubs involved the 257 Weatherby did its magic again, one shot at 287 yards and i had my first bear by 9:30 in the morning. DOW said it was an average bear for the area and probably 4-5 years old. I couldn't be happier to take my first bear!

Congratulation, you doing a rug or a mount? I did a full body mount on my first bear and love seeing it everytime I walk into the bedroom.

Leaning towards a full body mount, little expensive but i think it will be worth it. It has some great colors that you cant see in the picture. The top of the back is blond and it has 2 white patches on the chest area.

Ivory, all you need to do is get a bear, take it to the taxidermist and watch your wallet get lighter. What was really fun was watching the faces of the other drivers as I brought it home. Guess they never saw a bear driving down the road.

That's what I did. Mine is just the front half from just in front of the rear legs with its front legs standing on a rock. This way it gets mounted on the wall and doesn't take up any floor space.
