Is there a website that you can buy factory loads of various manufactures to determine what shoots best in a particular rifle? I thought I heard about someone doing this but a google search didn't turn up much. I thought you could buy 5 of whatever instead of having to buy an entire box.

Sounds like a promising endeavor/idea if we could get someone interested. Folks will probably nickel and dime them to desth. Only costs $30/box, why you charging $3/shell? LoL! You know it.

Otherwise, nope not available.

Ive got some various 30-06 if you wanna buy some. Otherwise cant help.

Since I am a reloader I have always hoped for 1/4 lb sample cans of powder, but it'll never happen.

The only loaded rifle rounds that I have ever seen in a 5 pack have been the very large bore cartridges, and most of them come in a 10 pack.

I don't think that it would be very economical for cartridge manufactures to package them this way unless you wanted to pay extra for it.

There was a company that did it with just bullets for reloaders could test various bullets, but I think they only lasted a couple years.
For ammunition, I think it would have to be a third party deal. I don’t think Federal is going to get with Hornady and make sample packs together. It is a great idea, but would be hard to start up at the moment since the ammunition market hasn’t fully recovered.

From what I remember it was a third party. Maybe it was just bullets and not the cartridge.

I know that years ago I would just purchase a box of ammo to shoot. If it wasn't the best shooting I didn't worry about it but it usually shot well enough to actually go hunting with.

I have seen quite a few questions and threads on other forums asking when it was that we needed MOI ammo for hunting. I have friends and relatives who have never shot another other than factory ammo an switch from brand to brand depending on what sales are going on and none of them have any problems bringing home game.

So I would just pick up a few different boxes of what you think that you might like and go see which one you want to use and then use when you decided just use the left over ammo as practice rounds.

You might also want to consider the manufacture when they change lot numbers. When they do this they can and do change powder charges which may affect your accuracy with that round. Like reloaders, when anything is changed you really need to recheck everything to make sure that it is satisfactory. Years ago I got a great buy on a case of Federal Premium 7mm Rem mag ammo and picked up a case of it. I sighted in my rifle for this ammo and used it for years, I still have a few boxes left but it is now relegated to popping cans and targets instead of big game.

wish i would have seen this earlier.....
Unknown Munitions out of Post Falls, Idaho will do a sampler pack per cartridge or rifle. after you talk with them to decide on all the options for your needs, they load them, ship them to you. After you shoot them you can tell them what shot best and they will load more for you.

I think Pendleton Ammunition will also load for you, but i havent used them so i didnt mention it in other post.
Unknown can make some quite specific loads for you or keep everything at SAAMI spec. I normally reload myself but travel for work so i figured i would give them a try. was a bit pricey compared to doing it myself but, it is a timely thing so i understand. they keep a record of your load and will load more for you and you can send them your fired brass that they used the 1st loading to have reloaded. i have used them for my 300 RUM load - 245gr Berger/N570 and my 300WSM which im still working on getting all the shots through. 180gr Accubonds with N565/RL-16
