Elk scents

Not seeing you move is most important. Do you think this elk didn't smell this guy?

leave the scent at home. you will risk covering his scent and you won't be able to smell him as you get close.

I doubt anything could cover up the smell of elk. A bull in the rut about gags me skinning it out.
I remember one time I was driving a back road just outside of town when a herd of elk were crossing the road. I stop, and just was looking at them when a cloud of their scent rolled by my Jeep. I had both windows down, and my Jeep smelled like elk inside for two weeks.

I've smelled plenty of elk in the elkwoods. now if you have elk piss on you or sprayed around you or hanging around you........how are you going to smell the real thing? your not! a lot different than smelling a rutted up ole bull when you are field dressing or cutting it up at home.

do you know where I hunt? how thick it is? I want the scent to help cover up anything that might help. Has nothing to do with no seeing them.

No, I don't know how thick it is, but I hunt in heavy timber 100% of the time, and I never found a need for scents. I guess if it works for you. I sure wouldn't want to spread elk piss on me. I smell bad enough now.

haha, beautifull country old hunter. i swear by scents. obviously using the wind is the best bet but it doesnt hurt to have some scent on ya either. more so your boots, i put estrus urin on pads that stick to my boots and spray scent killer on bottom of boots. we all have what works for us though

We all do what works for us and if the added advantage helps why not? Your in Colorado with more elk then any other state. Don't think its hard to kill one there. This is a hunting site for all hunters to help out each other not piss one another off. We all ask for info on these sites, If we were all as great as hunters as some on theses sites act like we wouldn't need to ask. So don't post smart ass comments.

If you think killing an elk here is easy, you should look at the stats. 20% success. Come try it in ML season with iron sights.

I don't cater to the sensitive types. I figure hunters are not thinned skinned, and can handle a little truth.
It's fine to hide your scent without smelling like the animal you're hunting. I file that under unfair advantage.

you file it anyway you want. I know nothing about the video, wind direction, if they used scent blocker or scents. Its not the same everywhere. All im saying is if there is advantages to use why not use them with out others talkin shit? You do what works for use but don't criticize how or what others do.
