Elk muzzleloader bullet

I am fortunate enough to have drawn a mz tag this year. I have been looking for a bullet. My current setup is a Barnes sabot, since that is a no no I need to figure out something else.

I have been looking at the federal all copper and the Thor. I am looking for some guidance on those or other bullets. I am shooting a t/c triumph.
I figured I need to buy a couple next week to try and whatever shoots the best I will get more of to practice until it is go time.

300 grain Thor, enough said.

I had a ML tag in unit 61 in 2014 and was shooting 300 grain Thors. I missed the first shot and then hit my bull 3 more times at 120 yards. Another hunter in camp asked why I shot him 3 times and I just said that he was still standing. I had two complete pass through and one ended up on the hide on the far side. All shots were broadside shots.

The picture with the bullets are one that I recovered and a unshot one. If you want to try the Thor you need to get onto their web site and get a sizing sample kit. They will send it to you free and then you can find out the exact diameter of bullet that you need for your ML. My ML is a TC Triumph and took .501's

I have had good success with Hornady's FPB bullets. I have taken elk and deer and they perform great. I also get great accuracy from them.

I'd go for the Thor first too. If it won't shoot well, then I'd look at others. I doubt you'll have a problem though. They seem to do well with most guns. The QLA in T/C's barrel causes some issues with some conicals but doesn't seem to be an issue with the Thor. Killed an antelope buck with the 250 grain Thor last season. They do the job well!

Thor/BH209 combo. Due to the increasingly expanding tolerances of newer muzzleloaders, this is the only custom like option that is out there for the best fit. We have saved many a muzzleloader that were gonna go in the garbage because hunters couldn't get it to shoot well. It's a no brainer.

Thor started selling a one size fits all bullet now too (.500-.504). I haven't heard any reports on them yet. Hopefully they don't do away with the custom fitting bullets of different sizes. If I was the OP, I would contact Terry and ask about the options now. One tip... Order early and order plenty. He has been known to run our of certain offerings as hunting season approaches.

I have used the Hornady FPB as well and it did it did an excellent job in CO on my bull from last year. One shot kill and very easy on the budget. I also use the BH209 when muzzy hunting.
