Elk meat is a staple in our house. How many of you live almost exclusively on elk meat all year?

Elk is primary, then antelope sausages, then waterfowl. Mule deer is a rarity as my standards are high and my lot in life last year was a miss.

Its a treat and probably always will be. I'm a terrible elk hunter and have bad spots. I would starve to death if thats what I relied on. lol

Matter of fact, I dont remember what it tastes like its been so long ago...

It use to be a main staple, but we like mule deer better.... I am going to start elk hunting every year again as I went ahead and spent my PP's on my no point unit this year and will be doing that every year from now on.

It used to be quite a treat for us. After I drew my first cow tag and realized just how much meat there is we stopped buying beef. Since it is only my wife and myself it lasts quite a while. Between my last 3 cow tags and my sons' bull we haven't bought beef in probably 6 years, only pork and chicken.
This past year none of us drew an elk tag of any kind so we will run out very soon.
The day we use the last bit will be a very sad day indeed. :(

It is a staple in our house. If the wife and I are successful enough to harvest. If not it seems there is always some antelope as well. Some sort of game meat is always on the table!!

Antelope breakfast sausage basically every morning and some sort of elk for lunch and dinner usually.. occasionally get chicken or pork to mix it up. But deer and elk get eaten daily for me... id hate to know my grocery bill without them

Staple and treat. First off I gotta acknowledge I'm blessed to live in the great state of Colorado which allows for the opportunity.

My son and I are always two season elk hunting. Archery and 4th, muzzleloader and first......so two down a year is not uncommon. I think the last time I had a beef steak was in a restaurant. Our freezer is usually always full year round. I also get great pleasure in giving it away to neighbors who maybe can't hunt as hard as they used to. My specialty is the jerky and I like making that every year and handing it out.

It was at one time but as I get older I move away from a lot of red meat and filter over to veggies and chicken. Also since it is just me at home I don't need a elk very often and actually am still working on my bull from 2015 and most of him is going into jerky. Deer is a lot the same way. I have moved from a meat hunter to a trophy hunter. I usually shoot a deer about once every 3 or 4 years for the meat if I don't see the size of antlers that I like.

I am also tired of giving away a lot of meat since the people that I usually give it to start to expect it every year.

Definitely not a staple, I kill an elk about every three to four year if I’m lucky. I am the only one in the family that really likes elk so one will last two years.

Elk's a staple that we never run out of but Shiras moose is a treat. My wife won't eat deer meat any more so we never have any in our freezer. I've maybe bought 5 pounds of beef in the last 30 years.

seldom is the year I don't have deer ,elk and antelope in the freezer . I have a large family that hunts , so even in the event I kill nothing we trade .

beef has become a treat I rarely eat anymore.

I've kind of gone the other way. used to be a trophy hunter but now the meat is priority

Very rarely does a day go by that at least one meal isn't from game meat (usually two, sometimes even three). Deer, elk, antelope and bear mainly, but sheep, goat, caribou, moose and javelina get added to the mix every so often. Elk is my wife's favorite, but I kind of favor deer from around here locally. I really like all of it a lot though!

Staple!
We eat 3 meals a day, 5-6 days a week. Breakfast sausage, pastrami, summer sausage, snap sticks, jerky, burger, steaks, roasts.
