Elk jump

So while I was out shed hunting yesterday, I came up over the top of a ridge and found a spot where it was a big rock face. Off the rock face there was at least 50 dead elk in a pile. You could see where the elk must have had something chasing them and just ran right off the side of this rim rock. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of something like this? It was crazy!

Wow that's something you don't hear about or see often. Kind of reminds me of the way I've heard some Indians used to hunt buffalo sometimes. They would run them off cliffs.

Yep! We have a historical site here from just that! I'm thinking this may have been like a pack of wolves or something!

Yep....Hells Half Acre near Powder River, Wyoming. Used to stay in the RV park there during hunting season. Had a motel and cafe....too bad it's closed now!

Craziness. Yeah you definitely need to bounce back there ad snap photos, let fish and game know. This is one for the record books. First thing that came to mind was mathew quigley.

I believe something similiar happened to the Kaibab deer population years ago. I believe Arizona conservation department was trying to round up some mule deer from the plateau to transplant somewhere else and they ended up driving the deer over a cliff. Very unfortunate.

That's just crazy jen. I got an email one time of a bighorn and a mountain lion that had fallen off a cliff and landed on a road. The lion still had a clump of fur in its mouth and both died on impact. Still it was nothing like what you're describing. 50 elk, WOW!

I think I am goin to call game and fish on it. I want to see if I can maybe go get all the ivories! It didnt look like it happened too long ago. Maybe a month or two. There were some of them that had been ate up pretty bad, it looked like whatever ate it mainly just stuck to eating the stomachs on them. Then there were some that we're still pretty much all intact. Plenty of maggots still though. You can tell some of them survived the initial impact and then went down the hill 50-100 yards and died. Now I really want to go back and get pictures. I probably will within the next couple of weeks. It is in the central Wyoming area in the Big Horn mountains. Down in the Kaycee area. There are definitely wolves around here. The only thing that sucks is the spot is 2.5 hour drive to get to the spot to unload the wheeler, then about 15 miles on a wheeler on a really horrible road and then about a 5 mile hike through a crappy canyon. Anyone wanna volunteer to come with? Haha

I would gladly go with you. Or you could tell me where this spot is at and I can find it and take some pics. I am friends with Rady Kerchew? a wildlife biologist in Buffalo. I think he might take care of that area. I will talk to him and im sure he will definitely want to get in on this. Please let me know and I will pass the location on. Thanks, Brant
