Hello, new to the forum and Idaho. I'm trying to do some research for archery elk hunting and was wondering if there is good elk hunting around Montpelier? Not asking for honey holes or anything just somewhere to start is all.
Knew a guy thru work in Montpelier many many years ago. He hunted elk near by quite successfully. Suspect there are still some around there. When I went there, seems it was surrounded by some elkey looking hills/mountains. You ought to check the ID web site, find out the local unit numbers, that may help as you search.
Nothing beats feet on the ground. Plan a summer trip there. Get some maps and google it and find a dozen spots you want to check out. Go look for elk sign and glass. You'll know in a short time if theres elk around or not. Call the local bio and ask about the elk herd. He might even point you in a direction! Be sure to go introduce yourself, people want to know a little about you. Idaho is a great state! Enjoy it!
God bless and happy new-year!!
