Looking at doing an OTC general any bull hunt in Utah this fall. I'm from Arizona and have never hunted out of state. In doing my research, I found a mountain range called the Henry Mountains. Does anyone have any knowledge of this range? Does it get hit hard? Are there good populations? Do trophy bulls get taken out of there? If this area is a bust, do you have any recommendations of other mountains to look at? Thank you for all your help!

They are just trying to kill off the last few remaining Elk left in the Henry's. This is their premier Deer unit and is being managed for that and the Buffalo. Utah has a pretty extensive harvest report on their website and you can see if any bulls have been taken there in the last few years. Most of the OTC Bull areas are marginal but they do hold a few trophy's if you can find them. Most of the OTC spike areas are actually Trophy Bull areas. Good hunting for spikes, while learning the area, and building points. Welcome to the forum and Good luck and God bless

Don't waist your time there are very few elk on that range. The Utah Dow wants the elk gone off of the range so that the deer and bison can prosper. This is one of the best if not the best trophy mule deer units in the US, that along with having one of the only free roaming genetically pure bison herds in the US so they don't want the elk out there.

The best unit for a OTC any bull in Utah is going to be in the Uintah Mountains north of HWY 40 and south of the Wyoming border. there is another unit south west of Cedar City that is a OTC any bull but that area can be a hard hunt if you don't know it.

We hunted elk in Utah with my son during junior season, it looks like there is a lot of hunters in the areas holding elks with OTC tags. I think you can find some decent elk if you want to get away from the road and work hard.

The hunting pressure in the Ogden area is mind boggling. You’re looking at over 14 hunters per square mile of public land. The elk density is better than average, and there’s a decent chance for older bulls.
