Hi All,

I'm headed out to west central Colorado tomorrow for elk. Curious if they've started bugling or if it's still a little early? My first time elk hunting and can't wait! I would've loved to go last week of archery season, but scheduling wouldn't allow. Good luck to everyone else out there chasing 'em!

My guess is no. Mainly because the last couple of days it cleared off and is hot. Supposed to stay that way for a week or so.
Really? Area I'm headed to shows high's in low 50's at 7k feet pretty much the entire week. I guess I thought that was avg temps or slightly below normal? Good to have that information though. Thanks for the response!

What area are you looking at? I'm in central western Colorado and at 6500 feet and it hit 80 today and the forecast is for more of the same until the middle of next week.

We had Bulls bugling in our area Wednesday evening, and cow called a 300" bull into a wallow. Was very hot all day and the Bulls were fired up that evening had another bull higher on the ridge bugling to us as well.

Thanks, that's a great sign. I've got your number in my phone if needed.

Weather forecast changed this AM. Starting Saturday back to slightly lower temps and afternoon thundershowers for the next week. Best guess is....NEVER try to outguess the weather! LOL

Two weeks ago while deer hunting in NV my son had a big 6 point bull bugle at him. The day before we watched 2 small bulls for about an hour and they never made a sound.

I was out the other day and the only bugle that I heard was from a hunter.

Typically when it is hot the elk will stay in the timber and quiet until just before sundown or just after first light and then go quiet the rest of the day.

On the temperatures I am just over the hill to the north east from Marble about 40 miles as the crow flies and the forecast is for hot weather until the middle of next week. But things can change, it is weather.

We'll be near Marble, CO. Checking some lower elevations, I do see some higher temps, but won't the elk be 9000+ feet?
I don't know that particular area but not all the elk will be that high. some will be high, some will be low and some will be in the middle. unless there's only 1 small heard there, but I find that doubtful.

I heard 5 bulls sat and sun. Heard 2 at 5pm sat afternoon. One Sunday morning was fired up.

Animals will be doing different things in different areas.

A few years ago I didn't hear a bugle one for the first few days that I was checking the area out just before my hunt started. Then one afternoon we had a hail storm and then the music started.

You just never know.

Out on my mountain bike ride this morning about 6am, still dark, 50 degrees and bit muggy from the rain last night and heard a good bugle. I'm about 20 miles south of Denver and there is a resident heard of about 100 cows in a small area with a lot of bulls in about a 5 square mile radius. There is no public land but our community raffles off about a dozen tags a year. Have yet to be lucky enough to win one but hopefully one day.
