I've seen many hunters on TV use decoy, but that's tv. TV is way different hunting. So you hunters out there, do you use decoys such as the eichler elk. And do they work good in the field?

I watched another hunting show where they were hunting mule deer in NV and they were using a moo cow decoy. They were able to
walk to within 30 yards of some does and to within 50 yards of a group of bucks. They just let out an ocasional moo. It was pretty open country.
It does make sense these deer didn't spook because they see cows all the time.

BG- search decoys and you will find several threads where members have discussed decoys, brands, and effectiveness. Yes they work....sometimes, if used properly.

We've used them in Wyoming and Arizona on archery elk hunts and they do help you get away with some movement by hiding behind them, especially in sparse terrain, as well as lessening tense animals when they see it. You do still need to use the wind or elk will bust you every time whether you're behind a decoy or not. I can't remember the maker of the ones my buddy in Sheridan has, but they fold up and just pop open with the metal spring gizmo that's inside them just like a lot of popup blinds.
